WESTHAM VS ARSENAL PREVIEW

WESTHAM VS ARSENAL PREVIEW

2019-01-12

West Ham did not cope well with the hectic Christmas schedule, winning just once over the festive period (W1, D1, L2). Regardless though, they have climbed to the upper half in recent weeks, winning half of their last ten league matches (W5, D2, L3). Going forward they have been particularly strong, scoring two goals or more in six of those.
Thirty-two conceded from 21 matches (1.52 on average), however, is the joint-worst tally in the upper half. At home, West Ham have just a single clean sheet in the league so far, conceding in eight straight PL matches here - and two goals in each of the last three.
That might spell goals when Arsenal visit, as each of their last five league matches have seen both teams score, with 17 of 21 overall seeing that outcome. In fact, no team can match the ‘Gunners’ for entertainment this PL season, with their matches averaging 3.7 total goals!
On the road, Arsenal are without a win in four PL games (D2, L2), and their 15 points from ten away matches is doing much to keep them outside the top four. It’s not for a lack of trying though, as 70% of their away matches have seen four goals or more in total.
Players to watch: Marko Arnautović marked his return from injury with a West Ham brace last round, while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is joint-top scorer in the PL with 14 goals for Arsenal.
Stat attack: Four of West Ham’s last six matches have ended 2-0 (to either side).
Arsenal hold a crushing upper hand in recent H2Hs, having won five of the last six across all competitions, drawing the other.
The visitors have scored the first goal in four of their last five away matches in the league.
